Behind the build: commissioning a high-power station, step by step

14 Sep 2026 · 6 min read · EVee Buddy Team

Commissioning is the stage where a charging site goes from installed to trusted. Skipping steps here is how sites end up with chargers that fail in their first month. This is how a high-power station is brought into service.

1. Pre-installation checks

Before the charger arrives, the team confirms the foundation, cable routes, earthing pit and panel are ready and match the approved drawings. The DISCOM connection and transformer, where needed, are scheduled.

2. Mechanical installation

The charger and any separate power cabinet are lifted onto their plinths, levelled and anchored. Bollards, cable management and canopies go in around them.

3. Electrical connection

Power cables are terminated, protection devices set to the right ratings, and earthing connected. Every termination is torqued to specification and recorded.

4. Insulation and earthing tests

Insulation resistance, earth resistance and continuity are tested before power is applied. Results are recorded for the electrical inspector.

5. Inspection and energisation

The electrical inspectorate checks the installation. Once approved, the DISCOM energises the supply and the team powers up the charger in stages, checking voltages and phase sequence.

6. Configuration

The charger is configured: power limits, connector settings, network connection and OCPP link to the management system. Firmware is updated to the approved version.

7. Functional testing

  • Each gun is tested with a test load or real vehicles at different power levels.
  • Emergency stop, residual current protection and door interlocks are triggered and verified.
  • Power sharing between guns is tested under simultaneous sessions.
  • Cooling is checked under sustained high power.

8. Back-office and payment tests

Sessions are started from the app, by QR and UPI, and from roaming partners. Pricing, receipts and session data are checked end to end.

9. Go-live and listing

The station is listed in the app and on roaming networks, signage is completed, and the site is handed to operations for 24/7 monitoring.

10. Early-life monitoring

The first weeks get extra attention: failed sessions, temperature trends and any faults are reviewed closely so issues are fixed before they become patterns.

This is the process EVee Buddy follows on every site, from 30 kW to 1.2 MW.
