Imagine needing a different card for every ATM brand. Early EV charging worked a bit like that: each network had its own app and account. Roaming changes that, and OCPI is the standard that makes it work.
What OCPI is
OCPI stands for Open Charge Point Interface. It is an open protocol that lets charging networks exchange information: where stations are, whether chargers are available, what they cost, and the details of each session for billing.
What it means for drivers
When two networks connect through OCPI, a driver using one network's app can find, start and pay for charging on the other network's stations. Fewer apps, more chargers.
What it means for site hosts
Your chargers appear to drivers from partner networks, not only your own users. More drivers can find your station, which helps utilization and revenue.
OCPI and OCPP: what is the difference?
The two are often confused. OCPP is how a charger talks to its management system. OCPI is how one network's platform talks to another's. A well-run network uses both.
EVee Buddy and roaming
EVee Buddy is connected with several partner networks through OCPI, and our e-mobility services help operators join roaming without building the integrations themselves.
