Charging as a footfall driver: why malls, hotels and restaurants are adding chargers

22 Oct 2026 · 5 min read · EVee Buddy Team

EV drivers plan their stops around charging. When they choose where to eat, shop or stay, a reliable charger can decide the choice. For destination businesses, chargers bring in visitors who might otherwise go elsewhere.

Charging time is visit time

A driver who plugs in for an hour spends that hour somewhere. If the charger is at your mall, hotel or restaurant, that time is spent with you.

Malls and shopping centres

Shoppers stay one to three hours, which suits 30–60 kW DC charging. Chargers can be a parking-level amenity that sets a mall apart from competitors nearby.

Hotels and resorts

Travellers increasingly filter by EV charging when booking. Overnight guests are well served by AC chargers, while highway hotels can add DC charging for travellers who stop for a meal.

Restaurants and highway food stops

A 30–45 minute meal matches a DC fast charging session well. Restaurants on highways can become the planned stop on a route.

The benefits for the business

  • New visitors who find you in charging apps.
  • Longer visits while vehicles charge.
  • Charging revenue on top of your core business.
  • A visible green commitment for guests and tenants.

Making it work

Chargers must be reliable, easy to find and simple to pay for. App-less QR and UPI payment helps first-time visitors, and listing on charging apps and roaming networks brings drivers to you.

No upfront investment needed

With revenue-share and managed-service models, EVee Buddy can install and run chargers at your site, so you gain the footfall without running a charging business yourself.
