Choosing an installation partner: questions to ask before signing

29 Oct 2026 · 6 min read · EVee Buddy Team

Chargers are installed once, but you live with the quality of that work for years. A poor installation leads to faults, downtime and safety risks. Use these questions to compare partners before you sign.

Experience and track record

  • How many sites like ours have you installed, and at what power levels?
  • Can we speak to two or three existing customers?
  • Can we visit a site you installed and still maintain?

Site assessment and design

  • Will you do a full site survey and load assessment before quoting?
  • Who prepares the electrical design and drawings?
  • How have you sized the chargers for our expected users? See choosing charger power.
  • Have you planned for future expansion?

Approvals and grid connection

  • Will you handle DISCOM applications, inspections and other approvals? See approvals and permits.
  • What timeline do you expect, and what could delay it?
  • Who pays for any grid upgrade?

Equipment

  • Which charger brands and models do you propose, and why?
  • Are they certified to the relevant standards, and do they support OCPP?
  • What warranty is offered, and who handles warranty claims?
  • Are spare parts available locally, and how quickly?

The quote

  • Is the quote itemised: hardware, electrical, civil, approvals, software and commissioning? See what installation really costs.
  • What is excluded, and what could become an extra?
  • What are the payment milestones?

Commissioning and handover

  • How do you test and commission the site? See commissioning step by step.
  • What documents do we receive: drawings, test reports, certificates and manuals?
  • Will you train our staff?

After go-live

  • Do you offer maintenance and monitoring, and what uptime do you commit to?
  • What are your response and repair times, and how are they measured?
  • Who supports drivers when a session fails?
  • Can we change software platforms later without replacing chargers?

Warning signs

  • A quote without a site visit.
  • Vague answers about approvals or grid capacity.
  • Equipment locked to one software platform.
  • No clear maintenance commitment after installation.

EVee Buddy handles the full journey, from site assessment and approvals to installation, commissioning and long-term operations, with one team accountable throughout.
